Overview

What Is PDF Metadata?

PDF metadata — also called document properties — is a set of fields embedded in every PDF file. Common fields include Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator (the application that created the original document), and Producer (the library or tool that generated the PDF). Dates like creation and modification time are also stored. PDF readers display this information under “Document Properties” or “File Info.”

Editing metadata is useful when the author name is wrong, the title is missing, or you need to strip identifying information before sharing a document. Our free PDF Metadata Editor lets you view and modify these fields entirely on your device — no upload, no server, no sign-up. Just drop your PDF, edit, and download the updated file.

JW

James Wu

Yes. Clear all the editable fields (title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer) and save. The downloaded PDF will have empty metadata fields. Since everything runs in your browser, no data is sent anywhere.

Does editing metadata change the actual content of my PDF?

ER

Elena Rodriguez

Legal Assistant, Madrid, Spain

No. The tool only modifies the metadata (document properties). The pages, text, images, and layout of your PDF remain completely unchanged. Only the properties like title, author, and subject are updated.

I have a batch of PDFs from a scanner with the wrong title. Can I fix them?

DP

David Park

Office Manager, Seoul, South Korea

You can fix them one at a time with this tool. Upload each PDF, update the title (and any other fields), and download. Each file takes just a few seconds. For very large batches, a command-line tool may be faster, but for a handful of files this works great.
