What Is the Skype Chat Viewer?

The Skype Chat Viewer is a free online tool that opens Skype chat export files (.json or .tar). Skype lets you export your conversation history; the export contains a conversations array, and each conversation has a MessageList with messages that include originalarrivaltime, from, content, and messagetype.

Drop your export file and you get a sidebar of conversations plus a chat-style view of messages. Message count, date range, and participants are shown. If the JSON doesn't match the Skype format, the tool shows the raw JSON in a pretty-printed viewer.

Your data stays completely private. Your chats never leave your device — ideal for personal backups, legal review, or migration checks.
