About

What Is a PDF File?

PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format developed by Adobe in 1993 for presenting documents independently of software, hardware, or operating systems. A PDF encapsulates a complete description of a fixed-layout document, including text, fonts, images, and vector graphics.

PDFs are the global standard for sharing formatted documents — invoices, contracts, reports, eBooks, manuals, and forms. Our free PDF Viewer renders each page locally using pdf.js, giving you page navigation and zoom controls without uploading your file anywhere.

Use the viewer to quickly read a PDF attachment, preview a downloaded report, or inspect document output during development. Your files stay completely private on your device at all times.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the PDF Viewer

Q1. What is a PDF file?
PDF (Portable Document Format) is a file format created by Adobe for presenting documents with consistent layout across platforms. PDFs can contain text, images, forms, annotations, and more. They are the standard for sharing formatted documents.
Q2. Do you upload my PDF file?
No. The PDF Viewer processes your file entirely on your device using pdf.js. Your data is never sent to our servers — everything happens in your browser.
Q3. Can I navigate between pages?
Yes. Use the Previous/Next buttons to move one page at a time, or type a page number directly into the input field to jump to any page instantly.
Q4. How does zoom work?
The viewer offers Zoom In (+) and Zoom Out (−) buttons that adjust the scale by 25% per click. The range is 50% to 300%. There is also a Fit Width button that automatically scales the page to fit your screen width.
Q5. Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Yes. Scanned PDFs contain images of pages rather than selectable text. The viewer renders the page image faithfully at whatever zoom level you choose. However, text selection is not available for scanned documents.
Q6. Does it support password-protected PDFs?
Currently, password-protected or encrypted PDFs are not supported. The viewer will show an error message if it cannot parse the file. Standard, non-encrypted PDFs work without issue.
Q7. Is the PDF Viewer free?
Yes. The tool is completely free with no sign-up, no limits, and no watermarks. Use it as often as you need.
Q8. Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The PDF Viewer is fully responsive. Open it on a phone or tablet, tap the upload area to select a PDF, and use the navigation and zoom controls to read your document.
