About

What Is an ICS / iCalendar File?

ICS (iCalendar) is a standard format for representing calendar events and tasks, defined by RFC 5545. Files are usually named .ics or .ical and can contain one or many events. Each event is wrapped in BEGIN:VEVENT and END:VEVENT and contains properties like SUMMARY (title), DTSTART/DTEND (dates), LOCATION, DESCRIPTION, ORGANIZER, ATTENDEE, STATUS, and RRULE (recurrence).

Calendar apps like Google Calendar, Outlook, and Apple Calendar can export and import ICS files. Our free ICS Viewer parses these files and displays each event in a chronological card layout with date, title, location, attendees, and status — without uploading your data anywhere.

It also works with exports from Yahoo! Calendar, Mozilla Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, eM Client, and other iCalendar-compatible apps.

Use the viewer to preview a calendar export before importing it, to check a meeting invitation attachment, or to verify backups. Your calendar data stays private on your device at all times.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the ICS Calendar Viewer

Q1. What is an ICS file?
ICS (iCalendar) is a standard format (RFC 5545) for storing calendar events and todos. Files are saved with a .ics or .ical extension. They can hold events (VEVENT), todos (VTODO), and other components, with properties like SUMMARY, DTSTART, DTEND, LOCATION, DESCRIPTION, ORGANIZER, ATTENDEE, RRULE, and STATUS.
Q2. Do you upload my ICS file?
No. The ICS Calendar Viewer processes your file entirely on your device. Your calendar data is never sent to our servers.
Q3. Can it show recurring events?
The viewer displays the RRULE (recurrence rule) if present, such as FREQ=WEEKLY or FREQ=MONTHLY. It shows the rule as defined in the file but does not expand recurrences into individual occurrences.
Q4. Does it support VTODO items?
Yes. If the ICS file contains VTODO blocks, the viewer parses them and displays summary, due date, status, priority, and description in a separate Todos section.
Q5. What date formats are supported?
The viewer parses both date-time values (e.g. 20240115T100000Z) and date-only values (e.g. 20240115). Times in UTC (Z suffix) are converted to your local timezone for display.
Q6. Can I search or filter events?
Yes. A search box lets you filter events by title (SUMMARY). This is helpful for large calendars with many events.
Q7. Is the ICS Viewer free?
Yes. The tool is free to start with no sign-up. Free usage includes daily limits based on your plan, and paid plans provide higher or unlimited usage.
Q8. What if my ICS is from Google or Outlook?
Exports from Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, and Apple Calendar use standard iCalendar format. The viewer parses common properties (SUMMARY, DTSTART, DTEND, LOCATION, DESCRIPTION, ORGANIZER, ATTENDEE, STATUS, RRULE) and should work with most exports.
